MISSION: To provide education, consultation and advocacy to families, students and school personnel. The Family/School Partnership program endeavors to promote strong working relationships between families and schools when working with an individual who has spina bifida. The program assists parents in obtaining free appropriate public education for their child, consistent with their rights under P.L. 94-142.
A consultant works with parents and teachers to provide in-service training and to arrange supportive services. Areas
addressed may include access, physical management, special cognitive
needs, health-care, and social development. To support this effort, the Spina Bifida Association of Western PA assembled a team of experts and developed a comprehensive learning manual and companion video for teachers of students with spina bifida.
