Hi I'm John from Edinburgh in Scotland, just browsing as I have Spina Bifida and found your site through Yahoo indexes.

This is a truly wonderful site and I'm extremely impressed with your programmes for adullts and kids (in fact may get SSBA (Scottish Assoc) to perhaps consider adopting them.

Love the idea of the Woodlands and camp, can I get an invite? I'm 41 years old though, is there one for u 'grown ups', still a teenager at heart!

Just surfing the web here in Florida and found our SBAWP presentation fantastic. The photos add so much to present the Associations' programs and goals. The editorials were equally wonderful. Did I miss something, or is there any mention of our hard working Womens' Auxilary? Fondly, Elaine Kappel (esquarekappel@yahoo.com) :) (Auxiliary member)

The Staff and Faculty were great to me and they always made sure that the campers had the time of there lives there. I haven't been to camp for about 3 years now but that is because I am working and can't get the time off but I do dearly miss going to camp and i miss everyone of my friends that i have ever made there. I also miss all the fun that I use to have. I made alot of great friends there and had some great counselors that I will never forget. I will have The Woodlands in my heart forever.

I'm a mother of a 4 year old boy who has spina bifida. I wish there was more information on spina bifida in Portugal, that's where we live. I never knew my son had any health problems until he was born. I wish Portuguese doctors were more selfconscient about these problems and did their job properly. Congratulations on your site. It's great and I hope it will help other future mothers preventing themselves and learning more about spina bifida. Keep up the great work! Ana from Portugal

I go to the camp and we have so much fun! This is a place where we are excepted by everyone and no one is looked at differently cause we are all the same. I encourage you that if you are thinking about coming to the camp please consider it more. Your son or daughter will make some very close friends. The camp offers some good opertunities and challenges for your child so please give them a call and talk to them and see what they have to say. And take it from me, Gabriel Rembold. I have been going to the Woodlands for 7 or 8 years and they have been the best years of my life!

Hi Camp Variety/The Woodlands friends, it's me Ron Ulishney from Latrobe, PA. (Westmoreland County). I am signing The Guestbook to say Hi,how much I miss camp, weekend retreats, you teen/adult camp friends,counselors..My last summer at Camp Variety/The Woodlands was in The Summer of 1994 spending 2 sessions in a row because there were what I call my 2nd home spaces vacant. After The Summer of 1994 I became employed full time w/a electronics business in Latrobe, PA. building circuit boards in 1994, and part of 1995. In July-December of 1996 attended The GateHouse program, while there I volunteered w/ STAT MedEvac Air-Medical emergency/nonemergency transport services in The Oakland end of Pittsburgh, PA. I also volunteered 1 day in October of 1996 at The Marshall Twp. Vol. Fire Dept. assisting with a fire prevention program for a local elementary school acting as a 911 Dispatcher. After moving back home to Latrobe, PA. (Westmoreland County), In March of 1997 I started working w/Mutual Aid Ambulance Service, Inc. in Greensburg, PA. (Westmoreland County) part time 1 1/2 days a week as clerical/administrative staff. I also have assisted STAT MedEvac 2 Air Rescue East Greensburg, PA. (Westmoreland County) w/Public Relations/Blood Drives which use our Mutual Aid Ambulance Service, Inc. facilities. I also assited a local Vol. Fire Dept. in my Twp. w/ a fire prevention program inviting, and landing a Air-Medical helicopter w/Life Flight In Pittsburgh, PA. for a fire prevention progam for a local elementary school in October of 2000. Then in Novemember of 2001 I filled out a application to join Youngstown V.F.D. station 39, which I was appointed safety officer which I am incharge w/The Chief, and assistant chief. Also inviting, and landing a Air-Medical helicopter w/ STAT MedEvac in Pittsburgh, PA. for a fire prevention program in October of 2001, and for a site visit for my fellow fire fighter brothers in July of 2002 at The Youngstown V.F.D. station 39. I am also in the process of writing a book about emergency services worlwide. Well everyone there is alittle about me since my last summer camp 2 sessions in The Summer of 1994. I am enclosing my 2 e-mail addresses for you to keep intouch those of you who remember me. Emsmaas@aol.com, and FireFighter39@firehousemail.com. I may sign-up for a weekend retreat, and 1 or 2 summer sessions at Camp Variety/The Woodlands, I also may start writing to some of you campers while you are camp as long as I can fit it in my busy schedule.

You and your friends and family can do this too! It's easy!!! Call Maureen at the office and she will help you get started. Make it an annual fundraiser. Everyone benefits. Take care. Bev Festor

I am 18 years old and in my second year of college at Del Tech. I was born with a rare form of spina bifida. My case was non-presenting. When i was born there was no outward signs that any thing was wrong. When I reached 18 months I lasped into a comma. After a battery of tests and doctor visits, I was finally diagnosed with Spina Bifida Occulta. I had surgery at 20 month of age. It was a rough road to recovery. I am kind of a mirical. I only have a clubed foot and bowel and bladder incontinence, and slit loss of feeling below the area of surgery. Sites like this help me to understand the causes and outcomes of Spina Bifida. Thank You. Hwyre pbmwyre@yahoo.com

Gooevening. It's me Ronald T. Ulishney from Latrobe,PA. (Westmoreland County). My last summer camp session was in the summer of 1994. Then in July of 1996 - December of 1996 was my stay at The Gatehouse which I had a blast, grrr...eat time, and learned alot. Thanks to Gatehouse Staff member Wayne Martin who arranged for the local volunteer fire dept. who I got the oppertunity to meet with the fire chief, firefighters, see the firetrucks, equipment/apparatus, and assist with a fire drill. Also In October of 1996, I was invited to take a tour of the local fire dept./staion, and assist with a fire prevention program for a group of local school children. Also in July I got to attend the Fire/EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Expo in Monroeville, PA. which I did some networking to find "VOLUNTEER" or paid employment in the Emergency Services career field. Which I worked in The Center for Emergency Medicine, and STAT MedEvac (air-medical transport) as "Volunteer" Admins./Clerical Staff. After my stay at the Gatehouse I moved back home with my Parents in Latrobe, PA (Westmoreland County). Then on 03/07/97 - present I became employed part time with my local ambulance service as Admins./Clerical Staff, Then on 11/28/01 I became a Volunteer Firefighter/Fire Prevention Instructor/Coordinator, and Landing Zone Instructor/Coordinator for air-medical helicopters.
