Life Skills Program

In the Life Skills Program, Gatehouse participants learn how to become more self-sufficient and take advantage of support services in order to ease their transition into full community participation.

Participants learn how to prepare a menu and cook; manage a household and a budget, including paying their own bills, buying groceries and arranging transportation; and take care of their personal health needs. They also learn what it’s like to live and share with other young adults in a supportive setting.

The availability of ACCESS transportation makes it possible for Gatehouse participants to enjoy Pittsburgh’s many social and recreational attractions, including Pirate baseball, Penguin hockey, movie theaters, shopping malls and amusement parks.
